To:  The Editor and Caryn Shinske,                    Re: 4 arrested in Bridgewater protest   http://www.c-n.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050626/NEWS01/506260349/1006/NEWS06

Below I have copied the reports from the ACTUAL self-identified organizations that were responsible for the protest demonstrations against the United Patriots of America, at the Bridgewater Sports Arena.  Please note that your article (URL above) identified the protestors as:  "70 activists representing the International Committee Against Racism and the International Committee for Immigration Rights."

Below you will find that the TRUE members of the protest were actually, socialist, communist, anti-American, leftist organizations.   Their entire purpose was to deny our civil rights to speak and assemble.  Their modus operondi is well practiced.  You will note below that NEITHER of those two groups mentioned in your article were actually there.  Ergo they LIED to your reporter in order to hide who they REALLY ARE!!  Which is another of their MOs!  Ask yourself . . . why would they lie?  The answer can be found in my latest column:  http://www.michnews.com/artman/publish/article_8479.shtml.

Please review the two separated sections below, so that the Courier News will not be 'hoodwinked' again!

Regards,

This is a report filed on the website listed below that identifies the ACTUAL and TRUE participants of the protest at the Bridgewater Sports Area where the United Patriots of America were meeting.

Casa Freehold's Report on the Bridgewater Rally in English & Spanish:

This is a reportback from Casa Freehold, the group that organized the demonstration against the United Patriots of America, a Minuteman-allied group that held a meeting in Bridgewater, NJ with a keynote speaker named John Clark that's associated with hate groups. They deserve all the props in the world for getting everyone out in such short notice and we will be with them on July 4 during their demonstration for immigrant rights in Freehold. This report is in English and Spanish.
Citizens and immigrants protest racist Minutemen in Bridgewater, NJ
Dave Schraeger
Bridgewater, NJ June 25, 2005 - A mixed group of US citizens and immigrants numbering almost one hundred gathered in protest against the racist anti-immigrant group the Minutemen who were holding a conference at the Bridgewater Sports and Ice Arena located at 1425 Frontier Rd., Bridgewater, NJ.  The group was racially mixed with Black, white, Asian and Latino activists from different organizations and politicial affiliations.  There were people there from Workers World Party, the Progressive Labor Party, People's Organization for Progress, Casa Freehold and the Central NJ Coalition for Peace and Justice, to name a few.
The heat and humidity did not wilt the energy and spirit of the protesters who chanted, among other things: "¡No somos ilegales!  ¡Somos trabajadores!" (We're not illegal!  We're workers!) and "¡Las luchas obreras no tienen fronteras!" (Workers' struggles have no borders!).
There were about 20 police officers, 10 of whom, were in full SWAT Team gear at this demonstration which was energetic but peaceful.  There was never any threat of violence against the police or anyone.  Yet, when the demonstration broke up and protesters walked up the hill to the parking lot of the Arena where some of the protesters had parked their cars, the police lined up and one of the SWAT Team members pointed his machine gun at the protesters.  Thankfully, there was no violence, but the police were quite hostile to the protesters.
It should be noted that the Minutemen tried to hold a conference in Freehold at the VFW hall across from the muster zone about a couple of months ago, but Casa Freehold, a group comprised of immigrants and US citizens advocating for the rights of immigrants, waged a successful telephone and email campaign to get the VFW to cancel it.  Freehold and Bridgewater are both fairly well-to-do suburbs.  The biggest difference appears to be that, while Freehold has a large immigrant population, Bridgewater itself does not appear to, although surrounding and nearby municipalities of Bound Brook, Somerville, Plainfield and North Plainfield do.  Many Latinos work in Bridgewater as they do in Freehold.
The participants from Casa Freehold handed out flyers announcing the July 4th demonstration for immigrants' rights in Freehold, NJ.  The demonstration is from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.  Anyone wishing for specific information on the demonstration on July 4th should call Casa Freehold Coordinator Rita Dentino at (732) 492-1852.  The Borough of Freehold has not backed off of any of its repressive measures against immigrants.  It is necessary to show the borough that we shall not let the abuses continue.  We are fighting back in solidarity with our immigrant sisters and brothers.

hey, this article didn't mention that it was the Progressive Labor Party (about 40 strong) that organize the main aspects of this rally and we're responsible for disrupting it on the inside. it was a great demonstration but some of the other groups showed up late after the initial arrests were made in front of the arena. we must keep it up and confront them whereever they are.

The reason why we did not mention PLP was for two reasons. One, we were not sure that PLP was in fact the group that disrupted the meeting (I recognized a few people but I wasn't sure where I knew them), and two, if I knew for certain it was PLP I would have needed to make certain that they wanted to be identified because sometimes they don't.

Also, I need to take issue with something you said. While I recognize the organizing for this that PLP did, It was Casa Freehold who organized the main aspects of this rally, not the PLP. Casa Freehold were the ones who contacted everyone and got their people and others including myself out there on short notice. I was supposed to have gone to deal with a Nazi rally in Yorktown, VA that day, but decided to deal with this instead after I got the email just one day before the meeting. In addition they had the most to lose in coming out, as many members and supporters of Casa Freehold are the folks that the xenophobes go after. Please do not take anything away from them. They put this together, they should get the props.
