Dear Assemblyman ___________

I am writing to express by opposition to A2607 which would give Driving Privilege Cards to illegal aliens.

v      According to the Dept. of Homeland Security, there are approximately 6000 terrorists among at least 12 million illegals. Do we want to make it easier for this sub-group to carry out terrorist activity in our country? Mohammed Atta, one of the 9/11 terrorists, was able to obtain a driver's license which made it easier for him to carry out his murderous acts.

v      A2607 will only encourage more illegals to come to New Jersey. This was the case in Tennessee and other states that have experimented with driving privilege cards.

v      In a state which already has a severe budget deficit, do we really want to spend tax dollars on the personnel and administrative costs to manage and implement this program for the approximately 400,000 illegals currently in New Jersey?

v      Illegal aliens are depressing wages for all Americans. Steven Camarota, research director for the Center for Immigration Studies, has documented how native workers are being crowded out of the market by cheap labor: 11% of American construction workers unemployed, 9%food processing workers unemployed, 11% maintenance workers unemployed. Black Americans are hardest hit by the wave of illegals, registering increasingly higher rates of unemployment. Do we really want to contribute to this trend?

v      Finally, this bill is an affront to legal immigrants who worked hard to come to this country legally. It also sends a terrible message to all the residents of our state in that it rewards illegal behavior.

We trust that you will not cave in to the demands of those who have broken our laws and who believe they are entitled to privileges and benefits financed by American citizens.
